HCA Florida Mercy Hospital is seeking an Operating Room Technician to assist the surgical team with instruments and sterile technique, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will prepare tables, maintain asepsis, count sponges and sharps, and position patients for various procedures, transitioning smoothly between cases.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and patient comfort; CST certification is preferred, with BLS required within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Operating Room Scrub Technician Certification (CST) Preferred.
• Completion of an Accredited Surgical Scrub Technician Program or experience working as a scrub tech.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• 1 year minimum experience as an OR TECH-Preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
• Prepares sterile instrument table and gathers equipment after procedure for cleaning and sterilization.
• Accurately completes sponge, sharps, and instrument counts and reports discrepancies.
• Positions patient according to type of surgery.
• Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
• Provides comfort and support pre-operative patients.
• Transports patients to and from surgical suite.
• Assists the surgical team in procedures by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
• Cleans and prepares room between procedures; restocks supplies and organizes for end of case cleanup.
• Maintains a safe work area; performs other duties as assigned.
