Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Post-hire/licensure requirements vary by hire date (pre/post 5/1/2024) and may include LPN licensure, RN program, Surg Tech Trainee program, or scrub experience.

Responsibilities

• Set up for scheduled cases with needed supplies and instrumentation.
• Assist in safe transport of patient to operating room and proper positioning.
• Confirm surgical site and procedure prior to starting (time-out).
• Scrub and gown per sterile technique; assist in donning gloves and gowns.
• Pass instruments and sharps to surgeon; assist with instrument tracking and counts.
• Assist in cleaning the OR and restocking supplies after procedures.
• Assist with endoscopic procedures and decontamination of instrumentation.
• Monitor autoclave function and maintain sterile equipment.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Assist RN/Physician as needed.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

BLS Certification within 30 days of hire

Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse OR completion of internal WVU Surg Tech Trainee program OR completion of externally accredited Surgical Technology program OR completion of a Registered Nurse program OR two years of prior scrub experience
