Responsibilities

• Contribute to a safe, effective environment for the surgical patient and enforce aseptic technique.
• Verify sterility and packaging integrity; operate sterilizers and OR equipment.
• Assist surgeon and first assistant by passing instruments, supplies and sponges.
• Initiate counts for sponge, instrument and sharps; track items throughout procedures.
• Prepare the operating room for surgery and coordinate with the circulating nurse.
• Inspect and organize instruments; report damaged items and arrange replacements.
