Job summary

Marquette General Hospital in Marquette, MI is seeking an OR Technician to prepare and maintain surgical instruments, assist the surgical team, and ensure sterile conditions throughout procedures. The role requires attention to instrument readiness and patient safety during operations.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, surgical technology training, and at least 6 months of related experience. Certification requirements include clinicals completion and BCLS.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of surgical technology program preferred.
  • 6 months of prior operative experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and ensure proper setup for procedures.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs by passing instruments and supplies during procedures.
  • Transport instruments to decontamination after procedures.
  • Maintain instruments in good working order and ensure availability for cases.
  • Maintain sterile field and counts of instruments, sponges, needles for each case.
  • Assist in testing and recording sterilizers and autoclaves as needed.
  • Confirm equipment status in OR/Procedure room and verify sterile processing.

How You'll Contribute
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments in the OR suite and ensures their proper set-up, assists surgical team during the surgical procedure(s).
  • Understands the procedures being performed and can anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during procedure.
  • Transport to decontamination room upon completion of the surgical procedure.
  • Handles instruments and supplies correctly and ensures their proper functioning.
  • Responsible for all instruments, maintaining them in good working order, and assuring the availability of needed instruments to do all surgical cases.
  • Maintains sterile field and counts all instruments, sponges, needles etc, needed for each case.
  • Has necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during operative procedures.
  • Cleans, assembles, and prepares instruments, equipment, and supplies for sterilization when needed.
  • Follows proper sterilization processes.
  • Participates in testing and recording of all Biotesting for the sterilizers and autoclaves in the department as needed.
  • Responsible for confirming equipment while in the OR/Procedure room. Sterile field has been appropriately processed/sterilized.

What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent - Required
  • Graduate of a surgical technology program - Preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 months prior experience in another facility.
  • License/Certifications: Certification from clinicals completed required; BCLS Required.
