Job summary

Aurora Health Care in Winston-Salem is seeking a skilled surgical technologist or experienced OR Instrument Tech to coordinate daily activities between the OR and Sterile Processing Department, ensuring efficient case flow. The role requires strong instrumentation knowledge and the ability to liaise across teams.

The ideal candidate will have a HS diploma with hospital Sterile Processing experience or an accredited Surgical Technology credential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with four years hospital Sterile Processing and/or scrub tech experience in the OR.
• Associate's degree with two years hospital Sterile Processing and/or scrub tech experience or CST credential preferred.
• Certification from an accredited certifying agency in sterile processing required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Manages flow of materials between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Department; directs daily instrumentation activities.
• Reviews the surgery schedule and ensures accurate case carts with OR coordinators.
• Assesses case flow and notifies SPD of possible additional/emergent instrumentation needs.
• Plans and coordinates instrument turnarounds; troubleshoots issues affecting surgery start times.
• Liaises between the OR and SPD; coordinates with OR staff and SPD management.
• Coordinates standards of performance for surgical instrumentation.
• Develops training plans for instrumentation with OR coordinators and managers.
• Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation applications.
• Performs duties per hospital policies and procedures.
• Verifies instrumentation sterilization and readiness for next-day or weekend cases.
• Performs Instrument Technician functions as needed; supports SPD manager.
