Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Lead Surgical Technologist for Thoracic Surgery at our Boston campus. This role leads the perioperative team, supports surgeons, and serves as a mentor to Surgical Technologists within the Thoracic service.

The position reports to the Operating Room Nurse Manager and emphasizes collaboration, high standards of sterile technique, and exceptional patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years as a Surgical Technologist.
  • Thoracic surgery experience required.
  • Current CST certification.
  • Strong communication and teamwork.
  • Leadership experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for thoracic procedures.
  • Organize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
  • Coordinate surgical equipment during procedures to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Serve as a clinical mentor for Surgical Technologists in Thoracic service.
  • Collaborate with Central Processing, Materials Management, Clinical Support, Education, and Nursing Leadership to ensure seamless operations.
  • Promote sterile technique and patient safety, delivering high-quality outcomes.

Lead Surgical Technologist - Thoracic Surgery

40 Hours | Rotating Shifts

What You'll Do

As a Lead Surgical Technologist, you will be an essential member of the perioperative team, working under the direction of the surgeon and in collaboration with nurses and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals. Reporting to the Operating Room Nurse Manager, you will provide expert clinical support while serving as a leader and resource within the Thoracic Surgery service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing operating rooms for a wide range of thoracic surgical procedures.
  • Anticipating the needs of the surgical team by selecting and organizing specialized instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Managing and coordinating surgical equipment throughout procedures to ensure efficiency and patient safety.
  • Serving as a clinical expert and mentor for Surgical Technologists within the Thoracic service.
  • Collaborating closely with Central Processing, Materials Management, Clinical Support, Education, and Nursing Leadership to ensure seamless surgical operations.
  • Promoting the highest standards of sterile technique, patient safety, and quality outcomes.
  • Supporting a collaborative, team-focused environment dedicated to delivering exceptional care.

Qualifications

If you are an experienced Surgical Technologist with a passion for leadership, collaboration, and delivering exceptional patient care.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licensure & Certification

Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.

Experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist required.
  • Thoracic surgery experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills with a commitment to exceptional patient care.
  • Leadership experience or the ability to serve as a clinical resource and mentor is highly desirable.
