Job summary

The University of Michigan is seeking an OR Instrument Processor to decontaminate, sterilize, and distribute sterile items in accordance with UMHS, AAMI, and AORN standards. The role involves assembling instrument sets, operating sterilization equipment, and documenting indicators while ensuring safety and quality.

Positions may be eligible for hybrid work; weekend call with 30-minute response may be required. Training and career progression within the instrument processing program are provided.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Instrument Processing Program including externship or 1 year of instrument reprocessing work experience.
• Certification (for Instrument Processor II) and externship completion.
• Minimum 1.5 years CSS experience for II level.
• Demonstrated competency with 80% of trays within assigned work areas.
• Ability to work as part of a team and take direction; rotating weekend call with 30 minute response time.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate instruments and other items and equipment per UMHS/AAMI/AORN standards.
• Assemble, package, and prepare instrument sets and reusable items.
• Perform sterilization tasks (Steam, EtO, H2O2, Pasteurization as site dependent).
• Operate department equipment following safe practices.
• Document sterilization indicators and testing results.
• Report processing issues to management and handle case carts as needed.
• Support other duties as assigned.
