Job summary

Covenant HealthCare in Michigan is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the sterilization workflow for surgical instruments and supplies. The role involves decontamination, reprocessing, reassembly, and ensuring instruments meet quality standards.

The candidate should be familiar with steam, sterrad, steris, and flash sterilization, follow infection control practices, and work within a Case Cart system to prepare surgeon-specific carts. Training and manual labor are expected.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Preferred: Accredited Sterile Processing course completed.

Responsibilities

• Examination, identification, care and assembly of all surgical instruments and trays.
• Follows proper cleaning and sterilization instructions for all surgical instruments and equipment.
• Examines instruments for cleanliness and proper working order prior to sterilization.
• Understands and adheres to different sterilization processes (steam, sterrad, steris, flash).
• Handles sterilizer malfunctions or wet loads following policy.
• Adheres to infection control practices and uses PPE correctly.
• Manages decontamination area processes and daily workload prioritization.
• Uses Case Cart system and GEMS to access Surgeon Pick Sheets and assemble carts.
• Documents sterilization records; monitors Bowie-Dick and biological tests daily.
• Orders/discontinues specialty beds; arranges loaner equipment as census requires.
• Restocks carts; removes expired supplies.
