Job summary

Henry Ford OptimEyes is seeking an Optometric Technician to assist clinicians with comprehensive visual exams and related medical visits. You will perform preliminary testing, enter data into the EMR, and support the eyewear team while ensuring patient comfort and safety during procedures.

The role requires strong customer service, basic math, and computer skills, with preferred experience in optometry or related fields. Evening/weekend availability may be required, and training is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in customer service or optometric tech preferred.
• Computer and EMR knowledge preferred.
• Retail or hospitality experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist doctor with comprehensive visual exams and medical exams.
• Perform preliminary testing (e.g., auto refraction, visual acuity) and EMR entries.
• Escort patients through the exam process and coordinate with eyewear staff.
• Educate patients on contact lens handling and wear schedules.
• Adhere to scheduling guidelines and time allocations for tests.
• Interpret prescriptions and suggest products addressing prescription needs.
• Complete required training and educational requirements.
• Answer customer questions and direct to appropriate sources.
• Handle multiple customers with tact and urgency.
