Job summary

Henry Ford OptimEyes seeks an Optical Technician to assist doctors with comprehensive visual exams, perform preliminary testing, and document results in the EMR. You will support post-exam follow-up and educate patients on contact lens care in a retail optical environment.

Responsibilities include guiding patients through the exam, coordinating with Eyewear Consultants, and ensuring efficient scheduling while maintaining high service standards. Evening and weekend hours are required.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Computer experience and basic math skills preferred.
• Previous customer service or optometric tech experience preferred.
• EMR knowledge preferred.
• Retail and/or hospitality/customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist doctor with comprehensive visual exams and related procedures.
• Perform visual preliminary testing and document findings in EMR.
• Guide patients through exam process and direct to appropriate department.
• Educate patients on contact lens handling, wear schedule, and care.
• Adhere to scheduling guidelines and time allocated for testing and entries.
• Interpret prescriptions and suggest products to meet needs.
• Complete required training and educational requirements.
• Address customer questions and refer when needed.
• Handle multiple customers with urgency and courtesy.
