Job summary

SEARHC in Sitka, AK is seeking an Optometric Assistant to support eye care services for patients of all ages. The role covers optical and imaging duties with on-the-job training, plus documentation and patient communication.

The position features a four-level career ladder, with advancement based on performance and new certifications, and opportunities to travel with the optometrist on field trips as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification at hire or within 3 months.
• Clinical Competency required within 3 months and every 3 years.
• Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology.
• Customer service principles and safety practices.
• Strong computer use with accuracy and detail.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Room and screen patients for providers; perform optical and point-of-care testing.
• Accurately document in a timely manner.
• Assist with optical orders, benefits verification, measurements, and dispensing.
• Assist with inventory management and invoice reconciliation.
• Acquire ocular imaging and enter images into the medical record.
• Provide administrative support: triage, scheduling, and patient questions.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and collaborate with staff.
• Travel with the optometrist for field visits as required.
