Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in California is seeking an optometrist to perform routine and complex vision care under supervision, applying independent professional judgment within state laws and group policies.

Responsibilities include comprehensive history taking, diagnostic testing, documenting findings, and coordinating with optical and ophthalmology teams to deliver high-quality patient care. Licensure in CA and TPA completion are required or must be obtained per policy.

Qualifications

• OD degree from an accredited School of Optometry.
• California Optometrist License required at hire.
• TPA certification required for external employees hired after 2009.
• NPI number preferred; obtain if not already held.

Responsibilities

• Conducts and documents patient history including chief complaint, symptoms, and ocular health data.
• Performs testing and documents findings using ophthalmic equipment (retinoscopy, refraction, slit lamp, ophthalmoscopy, etc.).
• Makes clinical diagnoses and documents impressions and plans; arranges referrals as needed.
• Collaborates with optical staff and ophthalmology to ensure timely, quality patient service.
• Maintains licensing, CE, CPR, safety training, and related requirements.
