Job summary

VisionWorks is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to enhance the patient journey by preparing patients for on-site or remote examinations, performing pre-exam tests, and explaining steps of the process.

The role supports the optometrist, manages registrations and medical history, and coordinates with retail staff to ensure smooth transitions and scheduling across locations.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience or more.
• Optical or healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office/business professionalism required.
• Training provided included.

Responsibilities

• Complete patient registration and enter Medical History and Ocular Health data into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with patient care and eye examinations; explain preliminary tests and document results in EMR.
• For remote appointments, guide patients through remote eye exams, perform pre-testing, initiate video conferencing, and document results.
• Transition patient to a retail associate after exam and convey doctor recommendations.
• Maintain patient records according to company standards and understand MVC plans to explain benefits.
• Preauthorize insurance according to SOPs and coordinate appointments with retail staff, including no-shows and cancellations.
• Maintain clean, organized clinical environment and equipment, and ensure supplies are stocked.
• Instruct patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and care; stock contact lens orders and notify when available.
• Work flexible schedules and travel to other store locations as needed.
