Job summary

Furientis in Los Angeles, CA is seeking an experienced optical engineer to own the seeker’s optical train from design through fielded units. You will design prescriptions, assemble and align modules, and ensure performance under Mach 3 conditions while coordinating with the perception hardware integration engineer.

Candidates should have 10+ years of IR optical hardware experience, strong Zemax/Code V skills, and hands-on metrology experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in optics-related field required.
• 10+ years of hands-on IR or precision optical hardware design.
• Strong understanding of wave and geometric optics.
• Proficiency with Zemax or Code V.
• Experience with environmental qualification testing.
• Hands-on optical metrology: interferometry, MTF, boresight.

Responsibilities

• Own the optical error budget end to end from prescription through fielded units.
• Design lens prescriptions and opto-mechanics (mounts, baffles, windows, domes).
• Build, align, and test optical modules; author acceptance specs.
• Define detector requirements from the sensitivity budget.
• Own module-level environmental qualification and failure responses.
• Own the optical supply chain and vendor relationships for optics surfaces and test equipment.
• Sign-off on every interface touching the optical column.
