You will design prescriptions, assemble and align modules, and ensure performance under Mach 3 conditions while coordinating with the perception hardware integration engineer.

Candidates should have 10+ years of IR optical hardware experience, strong Zemax/Code V skills, and hands-on metrology experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in optics-related field required.
  • 10+ years of hands-on IR or precision optical hardware design.
  • Strong understanding of wave and geometric optics.
  • Proficiency with Zemax or Code V.
  • Experience with environmental qualification testing.
  • Hands-on optical metrology: interferometry, MTF, boresight.

Responsibilities

  • Own the optical error budget end to end from prescription through fielded units.
  • Design lens prescriptions and opto-mechanics (mounts, baffles, windows, domes).
  • Build, align, and test optical modules; author acceptance specs.
  • Define detector requirements from the sensitivity budget.
  • Own module-level environmental qualification and failure responses.
  • Own the optical supply chain and vendor relationships for optics surfaces and test equipment.
  • Sign-off on every interface touching the optical column.
