Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for the Space Lasers supplier development team in Redmond, WA. You will oversee supplier performance across optics, metrology, and mechanical design, ensuring scalable, high‑quality production for Starlink systems.

The role focuses on improving supplier quality, cost, and delivery while collaborating with design and procurement to drive best practices and field-ready manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or STEM is required.
• 2+ years in manufacturing or process engineering roles.
• 2+ years of hands-on optics, photonics, laser tech, or precision mechanical design/manufacturing/testing experience.

Responsibilities

• Improve quality, cost, delivery, and capacity metrics for mechanical hardware used in Starlink systems.
• Collaborate with design, materials, and manufacturing engineers to understand part and sub-system design intent.
• Drive design-for-manufacturing feedback for scalable production designs.
• Support procurement to strategically source parts with suitable supplier capabilities.
• Create and define supplier technical and quality requirements for NPI and production phases.
• Lead resolution of supplier quality issues via root cause analysis across purchasing, engineering, and suppliers.
• Define product technical requirements and ensure supplier compliance.
• Implement PPAP with suppliers to enable rate production.
• Analyze supplier quality and delivery metrics to identify trends and root causes.
• Identify and pursue new suppliers and capabilities in manufacturing and metrology.
