Job summary

Lockheed Martin in Orlando seeks an Optics Manufacturing Engineer to support production of precision optical components, leveraging grinding, polishing, and lean manufacturing to meet demanding defense missions.

You will design and sustain manufacturing and test plans for NRE projects, drive cost reductions, and lead investigations of defects while managing tooling and capital equipment throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Optical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college.
• Experience with CAD software, creating mechanical drawings, and knowledge of GD&T.
• Hands on Optics Manufacturing or Manual/CNC machining experience.
• Must be a US Citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.

Responsibilities

• Providing technical guidance and hands-on support to optical operators to achieve peak performance.
• Designing, documenting, and sustaining manufacturing and test plans for non-recurring effort (NRE) projects, then transitioning those plans into full-rate production.
• Applying lean manufacturing techniques to reduce cost, improve yield, and streamline workflow.
• Investigating root-cause of failures or defects, implementing corrective actions, and driving continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Managing tooling, manufacturing aids, and capital equipment requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
