Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients entering the optical in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Answer phone and return calls in a timely manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of lens products, options and frames.
  • Communicate the best product for patient based on vision and lifestyle.
  • Promote sales of eyewear and meet sales goals.
  • Interpret prescriptions and assist in selecting the best product.
  • Measure and fit eyewear, adapt lenses and frames to patient prescriptions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in measuring spectacle prism.
  • Promote multiple pair sales to all patients.
  • Balance receipts and ensure accuracy before sending to accounting.
  • Organize and promote trunk shows with optical manager.
  • Enter patient demographics and insurance into software; enter work orders for lab.
  • Consult with ophthalmologists and optometrists as needed.
  • Track orders for timely delivery and notify patients of delays.
  • Verify and submit insurance claims; check lab eyewear for accuracy.
  • Dispense eyewear and adjust for comfort; resolve patient concerns.
  • Troubleshoot eyeglasses and perform adjustments per standards.
  • Work with clinic providers on new technology, frame lines and services.
  • Educate non-optical staff about optical promotions.
  • Maintain frame board management and ensure COGS compliance.
  • Inventory consignments and keep optical area clean and presentable.
  • Update POP and ensure promoted frames are in stock.
  • Meet optical goals set by management.
  • Instruct patients on insertion/removal of contact lenses; manage contact lens stock.

Status: Nonexempt, Regular, “At Will” Work Status, Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY

The optician will provide the highest standards and professional services to our patients. Present the optical product or service with enthusiasm. Provide proper instructions on use and care of eyewear products dispensed. Our goal is to provide exceptional service so the patient continues to return and receive top quality eye care.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. May require standing and walking for extensive periods of time and/or prolonged sitting, bending and stretching. Occasionally lifting items up to 20 pounds. Color vision, depth perception and visual acuity correctable to 20/20. Requires excellent communication skills and a keen understanding of patients with sensory impairments. Must be able to express a caring attitude while performing the required measurements and adjustments with accuracy and efficiency. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances and other conditions common to a medical clinic environment.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in measuring spectacle prism
  • Promotes multiple pair sales to all patients
  • Balances receipts against Payment Detail Report ensuring accuracy before sending to accounting
  • Organizes and promotes Trunk Shows with optical manager
  • Accurately enters patient demographics and insurance into optical software program
  • Accurately enters work orders and transmits to lab with authorization number as needed
  • Consults with ophthalmologists and optometrists as needed
  • Tracks orders for timely delivery from lab; notifies patient of any delays
  • Demonstrates knowledge and inter-workings of vision plans including DMERC
  • Verifies and submits insurance claims
  • Checks-in eyeglasses from lab, verifies accuracy of prescriptions and pricing, screens for defects
  • Dispenses eyeglasses, adjusts as needed ensuring comfort before leaving
  • Resolves patient concerns with new eyeglasses, seeks assistance, remakes as needed
  • Neutralizes eyeglasses and troubleshoots why eyeglasses are not working
  • Adjusts and repairs frames per standards, understanding what can be repaired or not
  • Works closely with providers in clinic and informs them of new technology, frame lines and services
  • Educates non-optical staff about optical promotions
  • Maintains and supports frame board management with optical manager
  • Ensures COGS is within set limits
  • Inventories consignment frames monthly
  • Maintains a clean and neat optical area, dusting regularly
  • Ensures frame boards and eyewear displays are up to date
  • Point of Purchase (POP) is updated and frame being promoted is in stock
  • Strives to meet all optical goals established by optical manager
  • Instructs patients on the insertion and removal of contact lenses
  • Polishes and cleans hard contact lenses
  • Orders all contacts lenses same day order is received
  • Maintains trial contact lens inventory
REQUIREMENTS
