Job summary

Modern Eyes in Massachusetts is seeking a licensed optician to guide patients from prescription to finished eyewear, including frame and lens selection, order management, dispensing, repairs, and troubleshooting.

This full-time role emphasizes education, trust, and accuracy over high-pressure sales, with a supportive team and growth opportunities. Schedule is Tuesday–Saturday, 40 hours, no Sundays or late evenings.

Qualifications

  • Massachusetts optician’s license is required.
  • Foundational experience with frame/lens selection, dispensing, adjustments, and repairs.
  • Strong communication, patient care, teamwork, and attention to detail.
  • Authorization to work in the United States and full-time in-person work, Tuesday–Saturday.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients warmly and professionally.
  • Assist with frame and lens selection, measurements, prescription verification, and patient education.
  • Manage optical orders from tracking, receiving, quality control, and follow-up.
  • Dispense, adjust, repair, and troubleshoot eyewear.
  • Review fees, insurance benefits, balances, payments, and documentation accurately.
  • Maintain frame inventory, contact lenses, and lab supplies.
  • Use EMR systems, ordering platforms, office software, and phones.
  • Assist with contact lens insertion/removal and hygiene training.
  • Communicate with labs, vendors, and insurance plans.
  • Maintain an organized optical, frame board, and lab area.
  • Support patient flow, clinical, and administrative tasks as needed.

Position Summary

Working with the Optometrist and patient care team, the Optician guides patients from prescription to finished eyewear, including frame and lens selection, order management, dispensing, repairs, and troubleshooting.

Modern Eyes is not a high-pressure sales environment. We focus on education, trust, accuracy, and personalized recommendations. We are looking for a Massachusetts-licensed optician with a strong technical foundation, warm communication skills, attention to detail, and pride in their work. This role is well suited to an early-career optician who wants to take on greater responsibility over time.

This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position with a Tuesday–Saturday schedule. No Sundays, late evenings, or major holiday work.

Duties & Responsibilities

Experience & Employment Requirements
  • Current Massachusetts optician’s license
  • Foundational experience with frame/lens selection, dispensing, adjustments, and repairs through licensed work, apprenticeship, or other optical experience
  • Strong communication, patient care, teamwork, and attention to detail
  • Comfort using technology and maintaining accurate documentation
  • Authorization to work in the United StatesAbility to work full-time, in person, Tuesday–Saturday
Preferred
  • Approximately 0–3 years after Massachusetts licensure; newly licensed opticians with strong apprenticeship or optical experience are encouraged to apply
  • Experience with independent eyewear, premium or specialty lenses, and contact lens training
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology, EMR systems, ordering platforms, insurance, and claims
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Physical Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, this role involves using optical equipment and computer systems; performing close visual tasks and measurements; using fine motor skills for adjustments and repairs; moving throughout the office; occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds; and remaining attentive and professional.
