Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Designs, measures, fit and adapt lenses and frames for patients according to prescription.
  • Recommends specific lenses, lens coatings and frames to suit patient needs.
  • Instructs patients in how to wear and care for eyeglasses.
  • Instructs patients with insertion and removal of contact lenses.
  • Maintains accurate records of patient prescriptions, work orders and payments.
  • Analyze, problem solve and correct customer service issues in a timely manner.
  • Insurance verification and billing; collects payments and maintains end-of-shift receipts.
  • Complete weekly retail sales report and process orders via phone, fax and computer.
  • Work with outside vendors to obtain quality product at a reasonable cost.

Job description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Eye Care the Licensed Optician will be a key member of the Eye Care team and is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while meeting CSHC’s goals and objectives for the optical services. He/she will interpret eyeglasses prescriptions, takes accurate measurements, advice and educate patients on frame and lens choices. The Optician is responsible for managing all facets of the retail store’s operation, including the daily management of the retail area, budgetary controls, inventory controls while maintaining the highest level of customer service.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Designs, measures, fit and adapt lenses and frames for patients according to written optical prescription and/or specification.
  • Recommends specific lenses, lens coatings and frames to suit patient visual and vocational requirements
  • Instructs patients in how to wear and care for eyeglasses
  • Instructs patients with insertion and removal of contact lenses
  • Maintains accurate records of patient’s prescriptions, work orders and payments
  • Analyze, problem solve and correct customer service issues in a timely manner
  • Insurance verification and billing
  • Collects payments and maintains tally of end of shift receipts
  • Complete weekly retail sales report
  • Process all glasses/contact lens orders via phone, fax and computer
  • Works with outside vendors to obtain quality product at a reasonable cost
  • Maintains accurate records of frame and contact lens inventory
  • Work closely with all eye care providers

Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
  • Associate degree in Opticianry or equivalent, NCLE certified a current Massachusetts Dispensing Optician’s License and at least 2 years of previous management experience.
  • Knowledge of sales generating techniques.
  • Strategic thinker and capable manager.
  • Confident and collaborative leader who has strong interpersonal skills, is a team player, and has a demonstrated track record of achieving both short- and long-term goals
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods (at least 50% of the time)
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and load onto shelves
  • Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading and computer use
