Job summary

Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC in Sunnyvale, CA seeks a Principal Optical Quality Engineer to own the quality of optical communication systems between satellites. You will lead QA across the supply chain, define tests, drive problem solving, and push for high-volume, high-quality hardware production.

The role requires systems thinking, deep optical knowledge, and capability to guide suppliers and cross-functional teams in achieving design-for-excellence and flawless manufacturing.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in optical systems development across full product life cycles (concept to production)
• Experience with optical metrology (interferometers, profilometers) for test, qualification and failure analysis
• Experience with optical thin film coating methodologies, failure modes, and processes
• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
• Must visually inspect and distinguish fine scratch/dig requirements in precision optical/mechanical components
• Experience in physical and geometric optics, Gaussian beam propagation, and detection
• Experience in manufacturing & assembly of optical components and complex optical systems
• Proficient in ISO 10110-7 / ISO 9211 / MIL-PRF-14830 / MIL-C-48497
• Proficient in ISO 9001 / AS9100 / IATF 16949 requirements

Responsibilities

• Lead the quality elements in the design, build, and qualification of optical systems and metrology for inter-satellite link components
• Implement optical inspections and tests in the supply chain
• Drive resolution of technical problems in optical testing and manufacturing with optimal strategies
• Develop and improve optical measurement methods using interferometers, cameras and imaging systems
• Lead development of measurement processes and procedures for volume manufacturing
• Collaborate with engineering, suppliers, supply chain and manufacturing to optimize Design for Exzellence
• Move quality checks upstream to achieve high process capability
• Foster a culture of quality, improvement and learning across Leo
