Job summary

Con Edison is seeking an Optical Network Engineer to design, implement, operate, and maintain mission‑critical optical networks across NY/NJ service territories. You will work on DWDM systems, fiber plant, and microwave transport supporting Energy Control Centers, substations, data centers, and corporate locations.

The role requires hands‑on design, planning, testing, and lifecycle upgrades, with responsibilities spanning design, documentation, and field deployment.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of DWDM network design, deployment, operation, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
• Solid understanding of optical transmission theory, fiber‑optic communications, and transport networking technologies.
• Experience with optical equipment commissioning, acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and network performance validation.

Responsibilities

• Design DWDM network architectures and optical transport for SCADA/OT systems and corporate connectivity.
• Develop plans, BOMs, specs, and schedules for DWDM, Outside Plant, microwave, DC power, and related infrastructure.
• Perform end‑to‑end testing, fiber characterization, and circuit turn‑up across legacy and modern transport systems.
• Create and maintain engineering standards, templates, and as‑built documentation.
• Travel across service territories for installation, testing, maintenance, and emergency restoration.
