Qualifications

  • Hands-on fiber testing and telecom test equipment experience.
  • Experience with network commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance validation.
  • Knowledge of optical power/loss budgets and fiber characterization.
  • Strong documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel to sites and work off-hours when required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and support DWDM, SONET, TDM, MPLS, Ethernet, and fiber-optic transport networks.
  • Develop engineering plans, scopes of work, BOMs, and technical specs.
  • Support optical networks for SCADA, OT, RTUs, protection systems, and enterprise comms.
  • Perform equipment commissioning, network turn-up, testing, and restoration.
  • Conduct BERT, OTDR, optical power, spectrum, and fiber testing.
  • Develop wavelength plans, power budgets, configurations, and upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot DWDM components including transponders and ROADMs.
  • Support microwave radio engineering, deployment, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Create MOPs, test plans, standards, and as-built docs.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, vendors, and contractors.
  • Support migrations, cutovers, and emergency restoration activities.

Job description

We are seeking a SONET/DWDM Telecom Engineer to design, implement, test, and support optical transport and telecommunications networks. The role requires strong expertise in DWDM, SONET, fiber optics, microwave, MPLS, and Ethernet technologies.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design and support DWDM, SONET, TDM, MPLS, Ethernet, and fiber-optic transport networks.
  • Develop engineering plans, scopes of work, BOMs, technical specifications, and network designs.
  • Support optical networks for SCADA, OT, RTUs, protection systems, and enterprise communications.
  • Perform equipment commissioning, network turn-up, acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and service restoration.
  • Conduct BERT, OTDR, optical power, spectrum, and fiber testing.
  • Develop wavelength plans, optical power/loss budgets, configurations, and capacity upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot DWDM components including transponders, muxponders, amplifiers, and ROADMs.
  • Support microwave radio engineering, deployment, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Create MOPs, test plans, engineering standards, and as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, vendors, and contractors.
  • Support maintenance, migrations, cutovers, and emergency restoration activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of telecommunications or IT experience with a bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of DWDM, SONET, TDM, Ethernet, MPLS, and optical transmission.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber-optic testing and telecommunications test equipment.
  • Experience with network commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance validation.
  • Knowledge of optical power/loss budgets and fiber characterization.
  • Strong technical documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel to network and project sites and work off-hours when required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Cisco NCS 2006, ONS 15454, CTP, or EPNM.
  • Microwave/RF communications experience.
  • Experience supporting OT, utility, energy, industrial control, or critical infrastructure networks.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications cybersecurity and FCC requirements.
