This position is for a highly skilled individual with an innovative attitude and motivated Process Engineer to join the ASML Wilton Factory Optical Fabrication team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in process development, optimization, and sustaining support for optics manufacturing technologies. This role focuses on driving yield improvement, reducing scrap, and enhancing overall process efficiency across various polishing and fabrication operations while supporting the industrialization of new development processes for production integration.
Role and Responsibilities
- Champion a safety-first culture by identifying hazards, applying risk assessment methodologies, and implementing mitigation controls in accordance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards. Ensure all tasks comply with site safety procedures and regulatory requirements, including wearing PPE such as safety glasses and hearing protection.
- Drive quality through process validation by monitoring quality metrics and maintaining a zero-defect mindset.
- Maintain on-time delivery by balancing process improvements with production schedules and customer commitments.
- Develop, optimize, and sustain optical fabrication processes including generating, grinding, high-speed polishing, pad polishing (PP), and continuous polishing (CP). Lead troubleshooting efforts, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards such as ISO9001 and ISO14001, maintaining traceability and audit readiness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges and implement sustainable solutions.
- Define process specifications and control limits using statistical tools like JMP or Minitab to evaluate process capabilities.
- Apply Six Sigma principles for continuous improvement and support cost reduction projects.
- Perform hands-on process trials and support qualification of new equipment, materials, and process changes.
- Document process specifications and procedures to ensure knowledge retention.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Report on process KPIs with data-backed findings and communicate progress to management.
- Support process control initiatives and lead troubleshooting efforts to prevent recurrence of issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Optical, Materials, or related)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in optical fabrication process engineering or related manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience with optics fabrication techniques, including polishing and surface inspection
- Strong understanding of process control methodologies and statistical analysis
- Proficiency in SPC, RCA, and lean manufacturing tools
- Familiarity with metrology techniques and quality assurance in optics manufacturing
- Proficiency with data analysis tools like JMP or Minitab
- Ability to lead problem-solving initiatives and process improvements
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills for process optimization
- Knowledge of production planning and bottleneck management
- Experience in semiconductor or precision optics manufacturing
- Knowledge of DOE and Six Sigma methodologies
- Familiarity with coating or cleaning processes
- Leadership or mentorship experience within an engineering team
- Experience with SAP or MES systems
- Knowledge of cleanroom protocols
Additional Information
The physical demands include sitting, typing, moving within the fabrication floor, occasional lifting up to 35 pounds, and working around lasers, chemicals, and PPE. Visual abilities required include close vision and color differentiation. Work environment may involve noise, vibration, and exposure to various equipment. Some travel may be required.
