Job summary

Sam's Club in Butler, PA is seeking an experienced Optical Associate to lead the optical department, oversee eyewear measurements, fittings, and contact lens education under applicable supervision, and safeguard member privacy with HIPAA-compliant processes.

The role emphasizes team development, inventory control, and relentless focus on service standards, while coordinating with labs and optometrists to ensure accurate product options and prompt member support.

Qualifications

• Completion of 2 or more years of college.
• 1 year's retail experience and 1 year's supervisory experience.
• 2 years' general work experience, including 1 year's optical experience.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent upon job entry or within 12 months of hire in order to sit for ABO exam.
• Meet the requirements to work as Optical associate (for example, minimum age, qualification, registration, certification, and/or licensure when required by the optical organization and/or by State Boards of Opticianry, as applicable).
• Must obtain ABO certification within 15 months.
• In licensed/registration states, must obtain state‑required optician licensure within 18 months of hire or initial movement into Sam's Optical, or within the timeframe required to complete state‑mandated training hours plus an additional 3 months to obtain licensure, whichever is longer.
• As required by state regulations, maintain NPI number and active state licensure.
• As required by state regulations, register and maintain Optician in Charge status.

Responsibilities

• Lead department sales growth through merchandising, pricing accuracy, inventory oversight, and seasonal execution.
• Forecast sales trends and align product assortments with member needs, community demographics, and local patterns.
• Monitor competitive pricing and adjust strategies to strengthen market relevance and achieve financial targets.
• Lead optical team through hiring, training, and performance management.
• Oversee eyewear measurements, fittings, and contact lens education under supervision.
• Ensure HIPAA and safety documentation and high service standards.
