Job summary

Lumentum is seeking an Optical Component Evaluation Engineer to drive hands-on testing, data analysis, and qualification of optical components for advanced telecom and data-communications products. You will develop test plans, analyze results, and work with R&D and manufacturing to ensure performance and reliability.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Electrical Engineering or Optics, hands-on experience with OSAs, power meters, environmental testing, and strong data analysis skills in Python

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or related field.
• Experience in optical component testing and characterization.
• Strong understanding of optical principles, fiber optics, and semiconductor physics.
• Hands-on experience with optical test and measurement equipment (OSAs, power meters, BERTs, optical benches).
• Proficiency in data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, JMP, Excel).
• Experience with automated test equipment (ATE) and scripting for test automation is a plus.
• Familiarity with Telcordia, IEC standards is desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans for evaluation of optical components.
• Perform hands-on optical, electrical, and environmental testing.
• Analyze test data, generate reports, and provide recommendations.
• Collaborate with R&D, design, and product engineering to define specs.
• Identify and troubleshoot failures and propose corrective actions.
• Contribute to automated test systems and data analysis tools.
• Maintain documentation of procedures, results, and specs.
• Stay current with industry trends in optical components.
