Job summary

Lumentum is seeking a Mechanical Component Engineer to lead selection, qualification, and lifecycle management of mechanical components for optical, telecom, datacom, and electronic products.

You will collaborate with Mechanical Design, R&D, Supplier Quality, Procurement, Manufacturing, Compliance, and suppliers to ensure design, performance, quality, reliability, cost, and long-term availability requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in mechanical component engineering or related roles.
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes used in precision electromechanical products.
• Ability to read drawings, specs, and certifications (RoHS/REACH).
• Experience with tolerance analysis and metrology.
• Ability to work with global suppliers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Engineering and Supplier Quality to drive manufacturability.
• Own component engineering activities including qualification and lifecycle management.
• Define and review component specs, CTQs, tolerances, and acceptance criteria.
• Lead qualification of new and alternate components (dimensional, materials, reliability).
• Partner with Supply Chain on alternate-source development and risk assessment.
• Assess performance, materials, processes, and tolerance stack-ups.
• Review PCNs, EOLs, and engineering changes for impact.
• Support R&D and Manufacturing in resolving component-related issues.
