Guitar Teacher (OPS)

Department: Blind Music

SALARY: $30.00

REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in guitarperformance and instruction.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background screening and fingerprinting.
PREFERRED
  • Bachelor’s degree in music, Music Education, Performance, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching students with visual impairments, disabilities, or diverse learning needs.
  • Knowledge of tablature, print music, and braille music notation.
  • Experience preparing students for performances, competitions, or recitals.
  • Experience working in an educational or residential school setting.

WORK LOCATION: Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, 207 San Marco Ave, St. Augustine, Florida 32084

WORK HOURS: 5 to 10 hours per week

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Guitar Instructor provides individual and small-group guitar instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired. The instructor develops and implements engaging lessons that promote musical skill development, creativity, self-expression, and confidence while adapting instructional methods, materials, and techniques to meet the unique learning needs of students with visual impairments. The instructor creates an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages student success and participation in musical performances and activities.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in guitar performance and instruction.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods for teaching music to children and adolescents.
  • Ability to adapt teaching techniques for students who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Ability to communicate musical concepts through verbal, auditory, and tactile methods.
  • Strong student management and student engagement skills.
  • Ability to motivate students and foster confidence and independence.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work successfully with students from diverse backgrounds and ability levels.
  • Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI);
  • Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR;
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
