Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets is seeking an Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced clinic. This part-time role supports appointment-based care, assists in surgeries, and performs ocular testing and routine duties.

You will prioritize patient care, restrain during exams, and assist with venipuncture, catheter placement and prescriptions. Training in anesthesia and cross-department coordination is available.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience is required, ophthalmology experience is a plus.
• Strong calculation skills for drugs, CRIs, unit conversions, etc.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities are essential.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize caseload and prepare charts for paperwork.
• Restrain and assist during examinations.
• Obtain vitals and perform ocular testing.
• Assist with venipuncture, IV catheter placement and surgeries.

We are looking for: Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant - Part Time

The Ophthalmology team is unique in that it specializes in appointment-based patient care, as well as assisting and preparing for surgeries. Ophthalmology is a fast-paced service with a high caseload, alternating between appointment and surgery days. You could assist with tonometry, corneal stains, Schirmer tear testing, as well as TPRs and chemical ablations.

What you’ll do:

• Prioritize caseload and patient care and prepare and check charts for appropriate paperwork

• Restrain and assist during examinations

• Obtain vitals and perform ocular testing

• Assist with Venipuncture, IV Catheter placement and surgical procedures

• Potential for additional training in anesthesia and sedation

• Prepare, call in or create written prescriptions

• Coordinate interdepartmental communication, services, patient transfers and consults

Who are you:

• Prior veterinary experience required, previous ophthalmology experience desired

• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)

• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
