Job summary

MedVet in Dallas is seeking a licensed Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician to join our fast-paced ophthalmology service. You will support appointment-based care and assist with surgeries, with opportunities to grow in anesthesia.

Strong teamwork and communication are essential for delivering excellent patient care. The role involves obtaining vitals, ocular testing, venipuncture and IV catheter placement, and assisting during examinations and procedures.

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license required.
• Prior veterinary experience required; ophthalmology preferred.
• Proficient in calculations for drugs and infusions.
• Flexible hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize caseload and prepare charts for paperwork.
• Restrain and assist during examinations.
• Obtain vitals and perform ocular testing.
• Assist with venipuncture, IV catheter placement and surgeries.
• Coordinate interdepartmental communication, services, transfers and consults.
• Prepare, call in or create written prescriptions.

We are looking for: Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician

Schedule:

Tuesday-Friday 7:30a-5:30p

The Ophthalmology team is unique in that it specializes in appointment-based patient care, as well as assisting and preparing for surgeries. Ophthalmology is a fast-paced service with a high caseload, alternating between appointment and surgery days. You could assist with tonometry, corneal stains, Schirmer tear testing, as well as TPRs and chemical ablations.

What you’ll do:

• Prioritize caseload and patient care and prepare and check charts for appropriate paperwork
• Restrain and assist during examinations
• Obtain vitals and perform ocular testing
• Assist with Venipuncture, IV Catheter placement and surgical procedures
• Potential for additional training in anesthesia and sedation
• Prepare, call in or create written prescriptions
• Coordinate interdepartmental communication, services, patient transfers and consults

Who are you:

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license required
• Prior veterinary experience required, previous ophthalmology experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
