MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in Dallas seeks an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician to support the specialty clinic, perform ocular testing, assist surgeries, and provide compassionate patient care. The role emphasizes accurate charting, restraining animals during examinations, and assisting with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and anesthesia readiness.

State Registered Veterinary Technician license is required; ophthalmology experience preferred; strong math and communication

Qualifications

  • State Registered Veterinary Technician license required.
  • Prior veterinary experience required, ophthalmology experience preferred.
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize caseload and patient care and prepare and check charts for appropriate paperwork.
  • Restrain and assist during examinations.
  • Obtain vitals and perform ocular testing.
  • Assist with Venipuncture, IV Catheter placement and surgical procedures.
  • Potential for additional training in anesthesia and sedation.
  • Prepare, call in or create written prescriptions.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental communication, services, patient transfers and consults.

We are looking for: Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician

Schedule: Tuesday-Friday 7:30a-5:30p

The Ophthalmology team is unique in that it specializes in appointment-based patient care, as well as assisting and preparing for surgeries. Ophthalmology is a fast-paced service with a high caseload, alternating between appointment and surgery days. You could assist with tonometry, corneal stains, Schirmer tear testing, as well as TPRs and chemical ablations.

What you’ll do:
  • Prioritize caseload and patient care and prepare and check charts for appropriate paperwork.
  • Restrain and assist during examinations.
  • Obtain vitals and perform ocular testing.
  • Assist with Venipuncture, IV Catheter placement and surgical procedures.
  • Potential for additional training in anesthesia and sedation.
  • Prepare, call in or create written prescriptions.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental communication, services, patient transfers and consults.
Who are you:
  • State Registered Veterinary Technician license required.
  • Prior veterinary experience required, previous ophthalmology experience desired.
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
