Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician to assist with diagnosing and treating eye diseases in companion animals. You will support advanced diagnostics and assist in a range of procedures from outpatient care to complex surgeries.

Responsibilities include setting up specialized ophthalmic equipment, educating clients, and ensuring safe anesthesia administration with supervision available. A strong passion for veterinary ophthalmology is essential.

Qualifications

• Ophthalmology knowledge is preferred.
• Licensed veterinary technician preferred in the US.
• Experience assisting in ophthalmic procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
• Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
• Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
• Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
• For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)
• Anesthesia training is available with help or our anesthesia specialist
• Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
• Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet's ocular disease and care
