Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with patient visits, schedule appointments and diagnostic procedures, maintain equipment and instruments, and order supplies.
  • Perform analyses including vision tests, document findings, and perform tests like Visual Fields and HRT as ordered by the physician, including contact lens lessons.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments.
  • Prepare examination rooms, escort patients, and clean rooms post-examination.
  • Schedule appointments accurately following department guidelines.
  • Complete referrals as per departmental protocols.
  • Use Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems appropriately and promptly.
  • Prepare charts and documents as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Reconcile encounters daily according to policy.
  • Answer phones professionally, direct calls, and take messages accurately.
  • Confirm future appointments and manage cancellation lists.
  • Update patient information including demographics, insurance, and HIPAA forms.
  • Submit records and payments to the accounting department daily.
  • Document allergies and medication lists accurately in the EHR.

General Job Functions:

  • Understand the contact lens ordering process.
  • Adapt to various work schedules.
  • Perform duties beyond assigned tasks when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and move objects, considering weight and frequency.
  • Maintain physical mobility, agility, dexterity, balance, and endurance for job tasks.

Environmental Risks:

  • Chemicals, fumes, loud noises, vibration, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, allergens, magnetic fields, radiation, sharps, latex.

Blood-borne Pathogens:

  • Potential exposure to infectious hazards, blood, body fluids, and tissue specimens.

Education, Certification, and Training:

  • High School diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred.
  • 0-1 years experience required; 2-4 years preferred.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Proficiency in English communication.
  • Knowledge of vision procedures, sterilization, and ophthalmology equipment required.
  • Experience with office technology, EHR, and patient care equipment preferred.

Travel: Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed.
