Description

The faculty physician is responsible for the care of patients in the hospital and clinics, as well as research, educational, and advocacy initiatives as determined by the Division Chief and/or the Center leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Medical Doctor (M.D.) from an accredited medical school (Required)

Minimum Work Experience

Required Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the area of expertise. Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for medical care. Ability to evaluate patient problems independently and develop care plans. Incorporation of ethical concepts into patient care and communication with patients, families, and healthcare team. Ability to supervise and train clinical professionals and students. Commitment to ongoing medical education and staying current in the subspecialty. Knowledge of and compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Full medical license and credentialing at Children's National Medical Center. Board certification or eligibility in primary specialty. Secondary specialty certification (Preferred).

  • Oversee medical care teams, manage patient care, and enhance continuity, customer service, and community partnerships.
  • Participate in on-call services as determined.

  • Use chain of command and escalation policies effectively.
  • Respond promptly and respectfully to team and external providers; set clear expectations for trainees.

  • Participate in advocacy initiatives and contribute to public policy efforts for pediatric health.
  • Educate patients and families on health topics.
  • Engage in health promotion and prevention programs.

  • Conduct impactful research in relevant clinical and translational science areas.
  • Review peer-reviewed manuscripts, publish scholarly articles, and seek research funding.
  • Participate in research committees and interest groups.

  • Engage in medical education activities, supervise and train trainees and professionals, and participate in educational programs at various levels.
