Job Description

  • Teach as necessary introductory, middle-division, and upper-division Biology majors’ courses. The incumbent would be expected to teach courses including Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, General Physiology, General Physiology Lab, and Human Anatomy. Additional courses could include and are not limited to Regional Cadaver Dissection, Human Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Developmental Biology, Endocrinology, and Basics of Life
  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
  • Contribute tostudent growth and development including student advising.
  • Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.
  • Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.

Salary Range: $64,066 - $186,015; Commensurate with Rank, Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree in Biology or related field]
  • Experience teaching lectures and laboratories in a higher education setting

Preferred Qualification

  • Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching.
  • Post-doctoral and or clinical experience
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate research students
  • Experience with academic advising undergraduate students
  • Experience with cadaver-based human anatomy/physiology
  • Potential to develop research involving undergraduate students
  • Willingness to pursue extramural funding

About The Biology Department

The Biology Department at WSU is aligned with NSF PULSE Vision and Change and looks to use creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.Recent and future curriculum will emphasize cross-disciplinary learning throughout the sciences. Students taking anatomy and physiology courses have the unique opportunity to supplement their study of human anatomy using male and female cadavers.The Biology Department has state of the art equipment for teaching and research labs including electrocardiograms, spirometry and urinalysis equipment, fluorescent microscopy suite (including a confocal microscope), tissue culture suite (BSL2), animal care facility, quantitative thermalcyclers, as well as standard laboratory equipment used in cellular, molecular, and genetics research. WSU has established IACUC and IRB committees for vertebrate and human subjects research.The Biology Department is affiliated with the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences medical imaging programs (radiography, MRI, echocardiography, sonography, and nuclear medicine) and has multiple medical laboratory science (MLS) affiliations.-Student development and research opportunities are emphasized which includes hands-on laboratory/clinical and capstone research experiences for all students. Funding opportunities for faculty and students to travel and present research findings in professional settings. WSU is in the unique and biologically rich Driftless Area of the Upper Mississippi River Watershed. The river and surrounding bluffs contain many ecologically diverse habitats harboring rare or endangered species of plants and animals, and we are centrally located on the Mississippi flyway for bird migration.
