The St. Luke’s Physician provides ophthalmologic services in the general care and treatment of patients in both practice and hospital settings. Physician provides comprehensive services for patients on a continuing basis. Physician will provide high quality, cost effective medical care. This individual will also participate in quality, patient satisfaction and performance improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Perform comprehensive eye examinations to diagnose eye diseases, vision disorders, and injuries.
  2. Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses, as applicable.
  3. Conduct high quality surgical procedures.
  4. Manage pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgery.
  5. Diagnose and treat ocular diseases.
  6. Provide emergency eye care and management of trauma cases.
  7. Perform within their subspecialty, retina, cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastic, pediatrics, etc.
  8. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient treatment plans.
  9. Educate patients and their families on eye health, treatment options, and preventative care.
  10. Provide outstanding patient and family experience in all clinical settings.
  11. Participate in medical education for all clinical providers and learners.
  12. Stay updated on the latest advancements in ophthalmology and participate in continuing education and professional development.
  13. Demonstrate/model the hospital’s core values and customer service behaviors in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  14. Maintain confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper release of information.
  15. Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follow appropriate reporting requirements.
  16. Demonstrate Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
  17. Demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
  18. Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  19. Demonstrate competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires sitting for up to seven hours per day, four hours at a time. Standing for up to four hours per day, one hour at a time. Requires occasional fingering, handling and twisting.
