Job summary

Delaware Eye Institute is seeking an enthusiastic Ophthalmic Technician for our Rehoboth Beach, DE office, offering excellent hours, a robust benefits package, and a clear career ladder. The role includes patient prep, preliminary exams, eye medication administration, and assisting with surgery or laser procedures.

Candidates with at least one year in ophthalmic tech or medical back-office experience are preferred; training is possible for qualified individuals with healthcare backgrounds.

Qualifications

• One year of ophthalmic technician experience or medical back-office experience preferred
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Basic computer literacy required
• Willingness to travel to other offices occasionally
• Ability to walk and stand for eight hours
• Ability to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting
• COA/OSC/COT certifications preferred
• One to two years’ experience in multi-specialty clinic preferred

Responsibilities

• Prepare patient to see Ophthalmologist or Optometrist and conduct preliminary exam
• Capture patient medical history accurately and comply with guidelines
• Prepare examination and treatment rooms and conduct routine vision screening
• Administer eye medications and maintain ophthalmic instruments
• Assist physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures
• Travel to other locations to support clinical needs
• Assist with contact lens fittings and patient education
• Document prescriptions and patient notes in charts
• Maintain inventory of medications and supplies
• Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained according to procedures
