Job summary

Penn Medicine in Philadelphia is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join the Ophthalmology department at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. You will support the Ophthalmologist with direct patient care, collect medical histories, and ensure accurate documentation.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma and 0-1 year ophthalmology experience or an Associate's Degree or a formal Ophthalmic Technician program. BLS/CPR and COA/Certified Ophthalmic Assistant credentials are required or pursued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED AND 0-1 years ophthalmology experience (Required)
• OR Associate's Degree AND 0-1 years ophthalmology experience (Preferred)
• OR Formal Ophthalmic Technician Program AND 0-1 years education and certification will be considered in lieu of experience (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• Completes visual acuity, medical and ocular history on all patients.
• Completes chief complaint and allergies on all patients.
• Completes health screening questions including falls, abuse, depression screening.
• Documents all medications on all patients.
• Completion of surgical, all procedures, and pre-cert insurance forms when required.
• Schedule MRI’s and retrieve reports if applicable.
• Collaborate with pharmacies to ensure patient Rx’s are filled.
• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
