Job summary

Penn Medicine in Philadelphia's Ophthalmology department seeks an Ophthalmic Technician (Per Diem). The technician provides direct patient care to a wide age range under supervision and supports the ophthalmology team during exams and procedures.

Qualifications include High School Diploma/GED, 0-1 years ophthalmology experience or an Associate’s Degree or Formal Ophthalmic Technician Program, plus BLS/CPR and COA; other credentials such as COT/COMT are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Associate’s Degree or Formal Ophthalmic Technician Program preferred.
• 0-1 years ophthalmology experience required or considered in lieu of experience with the listed credentials.

Responsibilities

• Completes medical and ocular history on all patients.
• Completes chief complaint and allergies on all patients.
• Completes health screening questions including falls, abuse, depression screening.
• Documents all medications on all patients.
• Completes preliminary ocular exam including visual acuities, color vision, lensometry, cover tests, motility tests, stereopsis tests, external examination, pupil evaluation, slit lamp biomicroscopy, intraocular pressures, refractometry, pachymetry, vital signs.
• Administer eye medications according to protocol.
• Perform Humphrey Visual Field testing, IOL biometry calculations, topography, OCT, and additional testing as needed.
• Assist in work up of patients before, during and after the following, (but not limited to) Argon, Diode, Yag, and SLT laser.
