Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months experience in clinical ophthalmology/optometry.
• IJCAHPO COA certification.
• Ability to pass required competency in ophthalmic technician procedures.
• Advanced knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and terminologia.
• Understanding of how anatomic systems and systemic disorders may affect the visual system.
• Demonstrated experience in patient instruction/education.
• Demonstrated ability in caring for and directing the blind or partially sighted patient.
• Demonstrated experience in ophthalmic instrumentation cleaning and maintenance.
• Demonstrated experience in minor surgical assisting and surgical set-up.
• Possesses the ability to work with intermittent standing and sitting for 8-9 hours/day.
• Good communication and organizational skills, professionalism, and motivation.
• Active pursuit of JCAHO compliance and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Screen patients and provide clinical support including pre-visit workflow.
• Assist physicians and optometrists in patient care.
• Perform visual acuity measurements and diagnostic tests as required.
• Conduct refractive assessment and classify spectacle types.
• Perform tonometry/pachymetry as indicated.
• Prepare pre-operative examination documentation with signatures.
• Administer ophthalmic medications and document doses.
• Ensure physician orders are followed and test results are reconciled in the medical record.
• Maintain exam rooms and replenish supplies.
• Calibrate and maintain diagnostic instrumentation.
