Job summary

Tufts Medical Center in Massachusetts seeks an ophthalmology clinical support professional to help facilitate patient care and exam flow, including gathering history and performing screening tests. You will assist with ocular imaging (OCT, topography, visual fields) and procedures, prepare consent forms, stock exam rooms, and document findings in the EHR.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, healthcare experience, BLS or willingness to obtain, and ophthalmic training; prior ophthalmology

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in healthcare related setting.
  • BLS certification or obtain within three months.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Completion of ophthalmic, optometric, or medical assistant training program.
  • Previous experience in an ophthalmic practice.
  • Experience with computer scheduling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient history including chief complaint and ocular/medical history.
  • Performs screening tasks ordered by the physician (visual acuity, lensometry, refraction, etc.).
  • Performs and assists with diagnostic tests and ocular imaging (OCT, Topography, Visual Fields, IOL Master).
  • Prepares patient consent forms and assists physician with in-office procedures.
  • Sets up exam rooms with supplies and patient education materials.
  • Ensures cleaning and disinfection of instruments and calibrates equipment.
  • Facilitates clinic flow and documents exam notes in the EHR.
  • Complies with regulations governing the Ophthalmology department.
  • May participate in clinical trials.
