Job summary

Atlantic Eye Institute is seeking an ophthalmic technician to assist ophthalmologists and optometrists by gathering data on patients’ ocular health and performing clinical tests. Strong data entry and ability to act as a medical scribe are preferred.

The role supports exam procedures, education of patients, and maintaining clean, compliant exam rooms, with competitive benefits and a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent years related experience preferred.
  • Certification, COA preferred but not required.
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
  • Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
  • Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
  • Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
  • Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
  • Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
  • Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
  • Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
  • Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
