Job summary

EyeSouth Partners is seeking an ophthalmic technician to support Raleigh Ophthalmology’s team in Raleigh, NC. The role includes performing clinical tests, recording patient history, and assisting physicians with in-office procedures.

The ideal candidate has ophthalmic technician experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with Nextech/ICP experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred.
  • Nextech/ICP experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform testing ordered by the doctor based on exam type and patient history.
  • Act as a medical scribe during examinations and enter data into the EMR.
  • Take ocular and systemic history and record visual acuity.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications as directed.
  • Assist with simple in-office procedures and obtain informed consent.
  • Educate patients and maintain exam room cleanliness and order.
  • Comply with practice procedures and state/federal regulations.

Raleigh Ophthalmology is a busy well-established, progressive twelve physician group with subspecialty care in cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastics, pediatrics, and comprehensive eye care services. We have a robust practice, with three area office locations and dozens of bright, qualified employees who help us deliver the best service and patient care in our medical specialty.

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Clinical
  • Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
  • Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
  • Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
  • Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
Administrative
  • Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
  • Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
  • Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
  • Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
  • Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
