Qualifications

• Required - High School diploma or equivalent
• Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in Ophthalmic Medical Technology
• Preferred - 2 years experience or Associate’s degree in Ophthalmic Assisting.
• Experience with ophthalmology examinations in a high patient volume department.
• Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
• Preferred - Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) Through JCAHPO

Responsibilities

• Enables clinic operations by effectively managing the patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
• Retrieves and collates patient information for provider.
• Cleans stocks and maintains exam rooms, procedure rooms, instruments and equipment and prepares patient for provider exam.
• Obtains near and distant visual acuity, amsler grid, worth 4dot, color vision, stereo vision, and basil tear secretion tests.
• Pulls patient's contact lens records for optometrist review.
• Cleans, disinfects and packs instruments for autoclaving.
• Documents per department guidelines, pertinent patient information in medical record (including, but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, brief history, patient instructions, communication of test results, etc).
• Ensures future appointments have been scheduled or communicated and referrals/pre-authorizations have been initiated and obtained.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
• Other related duties as required.
