Qualifications

• Obtains patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.
• Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include visual fields, pachymetry, auto-refraction, corneal topography, automatic lensometery, visual acuity, extra-ocular motility, refractions, confrontation fields, pupil evaluation and applanation.

Responsibilities

• Communication and patient care.
• Acquaints all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed; informs patients of the purpose of tests and how they will be affected.
• Obtains patient history as described above.
• Performs documentation and measurement tasks for tests such as visual fields and refractions.
• Determines next patient to be tested (triage) and escorts from waiting room.
• Maintains smooth patient flow to physicians and alters test sequence as required.
• Opens/closes exam rooms, cleans and restocks between patients, and ensures equipment is turned off and stored properly.
• Keeps supervisor informed about efficiency and patient satisfaction issues.
• Represents practice at community events as needed.
• Performs other duties to insure efficient patient flow and office efficiency.
