Job summary

Southwest Utah Community Health Ct is seeking an Optometry Technician to support optometrists with advanced pre-testing, exams, and precise documentation. You will educate patients, assist with procedures, and help coordinate referrals and billing in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The role emphasizes patient care, equipment maintenance, HIPAA adherence, and teamwork across the optometry team. Prior ophthalmology experience and CPOT/CPO certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in a medical optometry/ophthalmology setting preferred.
• CPOT or CPO certification preferred.
• Strong clinical documentation and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Obtain detailed medical and ocular histories, including medications and systemic conditions.
• Perform clinical pre-testing: visual acuity, refraction assistance, tonometry, pachymetry, OCT, fundus photography, visual field testing, and anterior segment imaging.
• Prepare patients for comprehensive and medical eye exams; assist optometrists during exams and minor procedures.
• Document findings accurately in EHR and educate patients on conditions and treatments.
• Assist with contact lens evaluations when indicated; maintain and calibrate diagnostic equipment.
• Coordinate referrals, testing, and follow-up care as directed by the provider; verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
• Enter charges for frames, lenses, and optical services; collect payments and support billing with payer communications.
