Job summary

Sight Partners in Renton, WA, is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our progressive ophthalmic medical and surgical practice. You will assist ophthalmologists, perform patient workups and testing, and help maintain accurate documentation and patient flow.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, about 1 year of ophthalmic assistant experience (COA/COT preferred), strong communication, teamwork, and detail orientation. We offer competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year experience as an ophthalmic assistant, experienced COA or COT preferred.
  • Maintains appropriate education, certification, licensure, and training.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office products, G-suite environments.
  • Willing to help in all areas, have the flexibility and effectively work in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, and ability to convey ideas and information verbally and in writing
  • Professional appearance, strong interpersonal skills, and patient confidentiality.
  • A strong organization with an attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Summarizes and documents ophthalmologist examinations and treatment recommendations.
  • Assists with charting, patient education materials, and ensuring patient understanding of instructions.
  • Takes and documents patient medical histories and triages calls.
  • Operates ophthalmic equipment (various devices) and performs tests.
  • Triages phone calls and maintains standard of care.
  • Sterilizes instruments and maintains ophthalmic instruments.

Northwest Eyes, is a progressive ophthalmic medical and surgical practice, we are searching for an Ophthalmic Technician to add to our team. Our Company is nationally recognized, with vast clinical experience in a wide variety of eye surgical services, advanced technology, and proven results. Work in a team-oriented clinical environment taking pride in and providing outstanding patient care. Team members are responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations. Maintained patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. Assist Ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic clinical functions, such as patient workups and special testing. May administer eye medications and instruct the patient in the care and treatment of eye conditions, apply dressings to the eye, and assist with in-office lasers and procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Quickly and accurately summarizes and documents what the Ophthalmologist says during an examination, including but not limited to the proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment, and recommendations for treatment (including justification of decisions reached when appropriate).
  • Maintains an awareness of the patient’s communication when the Ophthalmologist is providing instructions as it may necessitate the scribe repeating information and/or providing patient education materials for the patient to review at home.
  • Ensures the patient understands all instructions.
  • Takes and documents patients' medical histories.
  • Operates ophthalmic equipment, such as Auto Refractor, Retinoscopes, Phoropters, Slit Lamp, Pentacam/Topography, Wavescan, IOL master/instar, Projectors, Zeiss OCT, and Heidelberg OCT.
  • Pupil evaluation, Pachymetry, Humphrey Visual Field Testing, Tonometry, Color Vision
  • Extraocular Muscle Function Testing & Hirschberg Testing.
  • Van Herick measurements, Worth 4-Dot test, Stereopsis testing.
  • Triages phone calls from patients and outside contacts following the standard of care for Ophthalmology and office policies.
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain ophthalmic instruments or equipment.
  • Assist patients in inserting or removing contact lenses.
Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of medical coding terminology and conventions.
