Job summary

Whatcom Eye Surgeons, a progressive ophthalmic medical and surgical practice in Washington, is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. We train the right candidate for this role and emphasize outstanding patient care and accurate documentation of ocular examinations.

You will assist ophthalmologists with patient workups, testing, medications, and in-office lasers and procedures, while maintaining patient flow and professional standards.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of medical coding terminology and conventions.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office products, and G-suite environment.
  • Willing to help in all areas, have the flexibility, and effectively work in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Enjoy working with the elderly population.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills and patient confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close exam lanes and ensure all supplies are stocked.
  • Communicate patient flow with the team to keep schedules running on time.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work environment and waiting area for patients.
  • Complete various documents and forms (consent forms, work releases).
  • Take patients' medical histories and perform ophthalmic diagnostic exams.
  • Operate ophthalmic equipment.
  • Sterilize ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
  • Instruct patients in care and treatment of eye conditions.
  • Ensure all medical records are accurate and complete.
  • Triage phone calls from patients and outside contacts.
  • Maintain flexibility and perform other duties as required.

Whatcom Eye Surgeons is a progressive ophthalmic medical and surgical practice. We are searching for an Ophthalmic Technician to add to our team. Work in a team-oriented clinical environment, taking pride in and providing outstanding patient care. Team members are responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations. Maintained patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. Assist the Ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic clinical functions, such as patient workups and special testing. May administer eye medications and instruct the patient in the care and treatment of eye conditions, apply dressings to the eye, and assist with in-office lasers and procedures.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • One (1) year of experience as an ophthalmic assistant, experienced COA or COT preferred.
  • Maintains appropriate education, certification, licensure, and training.
