Job summary

Comprehensive EyeCare Partners is seeking a dedicated Ophthalmic Scribe to support ophthalmologists and optometrists by documenting encounters in real-time, entering data into the EHR, and ensuring accurate medical records. The role involves transcription, coding knowledge, and collaboration with clinicians.

Responsible for preparing exam rooms, adhering to HIPAA guidelines, and maintaining high data-entry accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a medical scribe training program or prior scribe experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical practice management and electronic medical record software.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; certification optional.

Responsibilities

  • Document patients accurately and efficiently in EHR systems.
  • Transcribe medical history, chief complaints, exams, and plans.
  • Review records for inconsistencies and proper coding.
  • Prepare examination rooms with instruments and materials.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and protect patient privacy.
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists/optometrists to enter information.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical coding and billing processes.
  • May perform other duties as necessary.

Our mission is to build nation’s preeminent eye care services company by partnering with world class physicians, driving superior clinical and surgical outcomes, and optimizing the patient experience.Position SummaryThe Ophthalmic Scribe is a valuable member of the eye care team, primarily responsible for assisting ophthalmologists and optometrists in documenting patient encounters and ensuring accurate medical records. Their role involves real-time transcription and administrative support during clinical visits. Scribes may assist with patient care as directed by the physician. These duties may include those of an Ophthalmic Assistant and/ or Technician.Roles and ResponsibilitiesDocument patients accurately and efficiently in electronic health records (EHR) or other designated systems, capturing medical history, chief complaints, examination findings, and treatment plans.Strong typing and data entry skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.Ensure the accuracy and completeness of patient records by reviewing documentation for inconsistencies, missing information, and proper coding.Prepare examination rooms, ensuring they are properly equipped with necessary instruments, supplies, and patient education materials.Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) guidelines, to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.Collaborate closely with ophthalmologists/optometrists to transcribe and enter information via verbal or written communication into patient records, ensuring clarity, coherence, and adherence to established protocols.Demonstrate knowledge of medical coding and billing processes.May perform other duties as necessaryExperience RequirementsCompletion of a medical scribe training program or previous experience as a medical scribe is preferred but not required.Familiarity with medical practice management and electronic medical record softwareEducation RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED preferredIJCAHPO’s Ophthalmic Scribe Certification preferred but not requiredPhysical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
