Job summary

Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) seeks an ophthalmic imaging assistant to support ophthalmologists with imaging, testing, and patient workups. You will operate fundus cameras and related equipment, document patient history, and assist in administering eye exams and medications.

Strong communication skills in English and the ability to work in a fast-paced pediatric clinic are essential. Minimum two years in an ophthalmology/optometry office is required; a High School diploma is

Responsibilities

• Perform ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic testing.

Job Summary

Provides clinical and diagnostic support to ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic imaging, diagnostic testing, and preliminary patient workups. Operates specialized ophthalmic equipment, including fundus cameras to capture and evaluate eye images and test results. Explains procedures to patients, administers eye exams and eye medications, and documents medical history to support physician evaluation and diagnosis. Ensures timely communication of abnormal findings, maintains equipment and supplies, and contributes to efficient clinic workflows while delivering age-appropriate patient care.

Pay Range

Minimum $25.46 Midpoint $33.73 Maximum $42.01 Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

• Required: Minimum two (2) years of experience in an Ophthalmology/Optometry office.
• Preferred: Pediatric clinical experience.

Education

• Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.

Specialized Skills Required

Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position; Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision.

• Preferred: One (1) year experience, as an ophthalmic photographer, Refraction, measuring of eye, imaging, and photography.
• Preferred Training: A-Scan, B-Scan, Visual Field, OCT, Optos, Fundus Photo, Interior Segment.

Licensure

• Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Preferred: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
