Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years (1,000 hours/year) experience in ophthalmic testing, including acuity, tonometry, visual fields and lensometry.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician; Basic Life Support.
  • Must be proficient in ophthalmic procedures and testing and able to work with electronic medical record systems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams; basic computer literacy.
  • Willingness to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

Responsibilities

  • Measure and record intraocular pressure and other objective ophthalmic testing procedures.
  • Measure complete visual acuity for all ages and ocular diagnoses.
  • Administer topical eye medications per physician order.
  • Set up minor surgical procedures and assist with supplies and instruments.
  • Schedule Optometry/Ophthalmology appointments and manage patient flow.
  • Prepare medical information for providers and document in EMR.
  • Update and process records related to provider appointments and tests.
  • Participate in training and orientation of new personnel.
